In the Vicinity

From the apartment, Idrija’s compact old town is easy to explore on foot. Anthony’s Main Road, the visitor entrance to the mercury mine, is in the centre of the old town and introduces the underground world of Europe’s oldest preserved mine entrance. Gewerkenegg Castle stands above the central square, about a 5-minute walk uphill, with museum displays on mining, town history, and Idrija lace.

For nature, follow the Rake water-channel path; after about 2 km it branches toward Wild Lake. Local restaurants serve Idrija žlikrofi, the protected potato-filled dumplings that anchor the town’s food identity.
