Happy Place sits right under the eaves of a Piran townhouse, a few turns off Tartini Square but above the noise of the lanes. The pitch of the attic gives it character, and small windows open onto a run of terracotta rooftops. It sleeps four in two bedrooms, a double and a bunk, which works for a couple with kids or two friends who don’t mind the climb to the top floor.
The kitchen is set up for proper cooking, so you can shop the morning market and eat in rather than book a table every night. Air conditioning earns its keep here, as heat rises through a stone house in July, and a lockbox means you arrive when you arrive, on foot, with the car left in the garage at the edge of the old town.

Most of Piran is yours within a ten-minute walk. Tartini Square, the oval heart of town, is lined with cafés and backed by Casa Tartini and the violinist’s statue; from there it is a short, steep climb to St. George’s bell tower for the view that puts the whole peninsula in front of you. The Sergej Mašera Maritime Museum is worth an hour on the town’s salt and seafaring past, and the Minorite cloister hosts concerts on summer evenings.
For swimming, skip the busy edges and follow the coastal path to the Fiesa coves, or take the short hop to Portorož for a sand beach and spas. South of town, the Sečovlje saltpans are still worked by hand and draw more than 300 bird species, an easy half-day by bike or car.
